Volleyball for All!

Kicking it off as the first interhouse event of term three, volleyball lived up to all of the expectations for the competition on Saturday night. With fewer and fewer events remaining in the interhouse race, all of the teams showed up ready to compete for the first place prize.

Although the girls’ competitive volleyball season ended before the winter break, their skills – which took their team all the way to the Provincial Championships in November – were put on full display. It was a chance for the girls to get back on the court and compete against their previous teammates to bring glory to their houses.

Varsity libero Alana H, Hope ‘23, elaborates, “??It was great to play volleyball with a bunch of Hope girls, from all grades, because they all kept a fun, positive attitude throughout the tough games. It was also just nice to get back on the court after the season ended.”

For the boys, on the other hand, interhouse is the one opportunity for all of the former players to showcase their skills. With boys’ volleyball not offered as a competitive sport here at Brentwood, many of the male students who used to play volleyball before coming to Brentwood view this as their opportunity to shine.

Jai S, Rogers ‘23 confesses, “I don’t really get a chance to play volleyball at all nowadays, so playing in a competitive game again is just so much fun. This was definitely one of my favorite interhouse events of the year.”

Mrs Scheck, who is also one of the school’s volleyball coaches, helped officiate the games. “The matches got very competitive and intense, but I still really enjoyed reffing. The whole thing was very easy. Mrs Ramsay did all the organizing for the event so I really just had to show up”.

Mackenzie and Ellis Houses arrived looking to defend their titles from last year, but there would be no easy route to victory. Ultimately, Alexandra House ended up winning the girls’ division, hitting the jackpot with an undefeated record of three wins and zero losses. On the boys’ side, Privett took home the victory, also finishing with a dominant three wins.

Interhouse volleyball turned out to be a huge success and we all look forward to seeing how the interhouse race untangles over the final events still to come!
