With the school year coming to an end, many sports leagues join in the trend as their seasons come to an end as well. Whenever there’s a sports event in Whittall worth watching, you’ll always catch students from all different interests join the fun.

So far this year we’ve had the SuperB Bowl and Olympics, but more recently and quite frankly, more importantly, we had March Madness. For those who don’t know what March Madness is, it is an NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournament where the best Division 1 teams from around the country come together to play in, arguably, one of the most famous sports events in the world.

March Madness is exactly what it sounds like; it’s madness. All teams start in the round of 64 which then leads to the round of 32, then the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Final Four, and, of course, the Championship Game. The reason for the Madness is due to many things: for example in the round of 64, number two Southeastern conference seed Kentucky lost to the number 15 seed and for the weight of the embarrassment, Kentucky has a budget of 30 million dollars whereas Saint Peters is 1.8 million dollars. It is March Madness.

On another note the Sports enthusiasts of Whittall like to indulge in the act of online and in-person sports betting which “We do not advise” says Fabian H, Whittall ‘22. Basketball is easily one of the worst sports to bet money in, especially in tournaments like this. Predictions mean practically nothing and the game is completely fluid once it’s begun. March Madness betting can “definitely leave you not going Uptown for the week” says Owen S, Whitall ‘22.

On Tuesday April 4th the tournament concluded with the University of Kansas securing their first NCAA national championship as they sealed the game by three points against the University of North Carolina. It was a nail biting game; money was lost, money was won. It’s all a part of the fun but never forget, when in doubt, blame it on the refs.
