Brentwood Bonding: Black Panther 2 – Wakanda Forever

Laughter, tears, and goosebumps filled the theater as Brentwood’s BIPOC Club and other Brentwood cinephiles enjoyed the powerful scenes of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With a beautifully crafted movie full of cultural diversity and representation, the outing was a part of the club’s initiative to improve the experience of those who identify as BIPOC on campus.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has received heavily positive ratings online, and our students definitely agreed. Ms Murtland, an organizer of the trip who also attended the movie, shares her perspective: “Not only did the movie have BIPOC leads, but also strong female leads, and it did not include the love story that I had been so conditioned to see. I was impressed that the creators took such a leap of faith and trusted that we as a society were prepared to go and watch a movie like that.” With powerful storytelling, surprising plot twists, likable characters, and, most of all, unprecedented cultural representation, the movie was a huge hit.

The experience gave a special opportunity for members of the BIPOC community to come together and bond. Chichi O, Allard ‘23 explains: “The BIPOC club meets every week to share stories and experiences, but an opportunity like this entices people to really come out and have a good time. I love seeing the members of the BIPOC community from all grades come together to enjoy this cinematic masterpiece. My hope is that, as BIPOC develops here on campus, we can have all sorts of events like this in the future.”

The BIPOC club is the newest major club in the school, founded just two years ago. With a passionate and driven group of students making up the club this year, they are excited to take BIPOC to new heights and continue to improve on the inclusivity of the school. Brian E, Rogers ‘23, explains: “This outing is the first of many activities we plan to host this year. One of the benefits of the club being so new is that there is no predetermined path we have to follow, giving us the ability to make the club into whatever we want it to be.”
