Kindness Week Gets Going
This week marks a special one on the Brentwood campus. It’s Kindness Week, a week to be particularly grateful, respectful, and appreciative. All Brentwood clubs have collaborated on this week’s events, which is unique in itself. The clubs involved are B-Well, Grad Council, SAC, BEAT, OMNI, and BIPOC. The schedule for Kindness Week can be found here.
Starting off the week, appreciation cards were passed out around houses on Monday, courtesy of B-Well. Their main goal was to encourage the appreciation of others and make someone’s day a little better! Monday was also Rent-a-Grad day, promoted by the Grad Council. Numerous grade twelves volunteered to be raffled off to the other grades to fundraise for the bursary fund. All day, these grads were at the disposal of younger students, carrying out tasks such as collecting laundry, going to meals, and even running errands uptown for them.
Grad President Hazel L, Allard ‘23 mentioned that they “were worried about this fundraiser because, in the past years, grads never volunteered for it. Though this year we saw a high number of volunteers and everyone seemed extremely excited to participate”. It was certainly worth it!
All six clubs were ecstatic about creating this week and a lot of thought went into planning events, collecting supplies, and making them happen. “It has been such an amazing honour to work with all the clubs in order to create Kindness Week. It is a great way to bring the whole Brentwood community together through every aspect of student life” explained Sophie H, Mack ‘23, BEAT Captain. Finley T, Privett ‘23, OMNI Captain, built off of this by saying “There was a lot of thought and care that went into planning these events, and each club had to keep in mind what they truly wanted to accomplish in this week”.
Each day has a certain title, each related to kindness; Tuesday is marked as “Gratituesday and Staff Appreciation Day”, Wednesday is “Be Kind to Others Day” when we will wear Pink Shirts for Anti-Bullying, Thursday is “Be Kind to the Earth Day”, Friday is “Rainbow Day!” and lastly, Saturday is “Wellness Day”. Each day marks the influence of each club Captain. The most notable include BEAT’s environmental attitude presenting “Be Kind to the Earth Day”, and OMNI repping their pride with “Rainbow Day!”. “This day will include several activities, such as a tattoo station and a sticker station. We wanted to make sure OMNI was represented in Kindness Week because the acceptance of others is such a vital part of kindness”, said Finley.
Jenny L, Alex ‘23, B-Well Captain, summarized her club’s contribution by saying “The six clubs came together to plan unique and fun events for Kindness Week, with the goal of bringing the Brentwood community together. Some things B-Well contributed include appreciation cards, sensory bag-making, a Friday night yoga session and the proposal of a Wellness Saturday”.
It was an incredible feat getting all the clubs together for such a special week. We hope that every student takes part in all the great events and has a lot of fun!
