With the campus starting to warm up to some sunshine as we begin April, the Senior Boys Rugby team got to work on March 30th against our local rival, Shawnigan. Leading up to this game, we had only had three practices and two games against the Port Alberni Armada and SMUS. Facing off against Shawnigan, a more experienced AAA team with many talented players, we knew we had a great challenge ahead of us.

The Senior program played two games so everyone would learn and gain from the experience. In our first game, the Shawnigan team came out with great intensity, prevailing on a couple of early tries. However, the Brentwood team never backed down. According to Lucas M, Whittall ‘23 “They weren’t as big as I expected”. Even though they got “50 or something points, they only scored two tries on us in the second half which is an improvement” observed Joffre D, Whittall ‘23.

Rugby is a unique sport where everyone is required to put their body on the line and overcome many bumps and scratches which is something that not everyone is willing to do, however, every one one of us did in that game.

Our second game was also a “Hell of a game” according to Mr Thompson, our beloved coach. After sharing some motivational words in the locker room, the boys came out flying ready to take on this challenge. From the start to the very last second of the game, our defensive efforts were phenomenal. With an impressive line speed and countless exceptional tackles, the game was close for the entire duration. The end score was 0-29 to Shawnigan, however, the team should be proud of the great effort put into this game.
