Enjoying Easter Weekend

Between new third term sports, studying for the impending AP Exams in the beginning of May, and rehearsals for Evening of Dance, Senior Play, and Concert for A Summer’s Eve, April is certainly a busy time on Brentwood’s campus. So, as cherry blossoms covered the sidewalks in pink and the sun attempted to break through the rain clouds, students were itching for a respite from their efforts. Fortunately, relief arrived right on time as Easter Break was held from April 7-9.

While a three-day weekend might not seem like much, to Brentwood staff and students who endure six-day work/academic weeks, it was a deeply appreciated time to rest. “Easter Weekend allowed us to return home to our families, enjoy a weekend with friends, or take time to rest while staying on campus,” remarked B-Well Captain, Jenny L, Alex ‘23. “I think everyone enjoyed the time away from schoolwork to recharge our batteries.”

Brentwood students chose to spend the weekend in different ways. The short break didn’t leave much time to travel far, so the ferries leaving Victoria and Naniamo were full of students heading to Vancouver for the weekend. Among them was Aysha D, Allard ‘24. “I had a great break,” she remarked. Aysha met up with friends and spent the three days shopping, eating at restaurants, and catching up on the new season of Love Island. Many day students like Lily C, Mack ‘23 and Sophie A, Alex ‘25 opened their homes to host their friends who weren’t able to travel home. Other students like Christine L, Mack ‘23 went skiing at Mt Washington and several French music fans, including French teacher Mme Hall, attended a concert in Vancouver to see Angèle, a famous Belgian singer. Some, however, took a more laid back approach to the weekend. For example, Assistant Houseparent of Alex House, Ms Langer, took “two naps a day.”

No matter their plans, most students agreed that the break was much needed and thoroughly enjoyed. It was a great chance for everyone to rest up in preparation for the busy third term ahead!
