Mission Accomplished

A season full of ups and downs … cliche, I know, but truly, a season like no other. 12 girls, two coaches, one goal in mind: Make History.

The team hit the ground running. In Mid-Island league play, the squad was undefeated, winning all their games by 30+.

Onto tournament play. In the Victoria Police tournament, Brentwood beat 3A Clayton Heights and fell short to 4A Claremont Secondary and 2A Provincial runner-ups PCS. This was Co-Captain, Miranda NP’s first moment of glory as she was awarded tournament All-Star.

The following weekend the gang hosted the Clyde Ogilvie Invitational winning against 4A and 3A teams. This tournament was the birth of @bblballers – run by the team’s ‘Social Media Director’ Peyton H, Hope ’24. Used as a scrapbook for all our highlights (and lowlights), it was always guaranteed to get a – poorly disguised – chuckle out of Head Coach Ms Napier and Assistant Coach Ms Cole.

The K-Face Tournament at Southridge highlighted the team’s first trip to the Mainland along with more convincing wins over 2A and 3A Vancouver schools. Co-Captain Jensa NG, Mack ‘23 was awarded tournament All-Star, despite playing on a freshly sprained ankle and a broken finger.

A few more accolades included a second-place finish at ISAs, falling short only to eventual 2A Provincial Champions and Mainland powerhouse, Mulgrave. The team also stashed a second-place finish at Islands under their belts. Jensa NG and Kionah W ‘29 were awarded First Team All-stars and Miranda NP the Defensive Player of the Tournament.

Provincials was a chance for more history to be made. Mission accomplished. After falling short by 6 to 5th ranked STMC, Brentwood proceeded to sweep their next three games, winning the consolation championships, resulting in Brentwood’s highest finish ever (9th) in a Sr. Girls Basketball Provincial Championship. Miranda, Jensa, Kionah “the Kid” and Ruby M, Allard ‘25 all received POTG accolades.

But who remembers the scores? What we’ll remember forever are the away trips, sleepovers, nicknames, morning activations, cheers, but mostly, the full-court-slays.
