A Rogers Family Farewell

This year has been a great example of why the Rogers Pirates always do it best. Ask any Rogers boy and they will give you a flurry of answers as to why this house is so special. Whether it’s the zestful antics of Ian Cooper, the substitute of screaming instead of singing for Happy Birthday, or the playful encouragement of our Interhouse Captains Will Heard and Noe Tsang, it is clear to everyone that Rogers is like no other house on campus. Although these quirks do play a part in the functioning of the house, I do not believe they are the backbone.

No, for this honor can only be attributed to two things, the staff, and the Prefects. It is no secret that the staff at Brentwood work hard, but I believe that those in Rogers are especially outstanding. Whether it’s the straightforward nature of Mr. Snow, the fun-loving attitude of Mr. Thompson, the stern British discipline of Mrs. Whitney, the willingness to help seen in Mr. Prokopchuk, the caring nature of Mr. Hernandez, the joking personality of Mr. Ross, the sheer wealth of knowledge in Mr. Stevens, or the eagerness to learn of our newest member, Mr. Calder, it’s easy to see the reason why every single Rogers boy is a decent human being.

Finally, I want to give the biggest thanks to my fellow 12s, or more appropriately, my brothers. Whether they were a lifer or new this year, each and every one of the Prefects made a commitment to upholding an amazing standard of excellence in the house. Each 12 had a discernible quirk to them that made every second with them amazing. I’m going to be honest, at the start of the year I was nervous because I had only ever seen the boyish and sometimes immature sides of my fellow Prefects, but when we walk under that big white tent on June 17th to collect our diplomas, I’ll have no doubt in my mind that we all did our best and became respectable young men along the way.

And in the words of former House Captain Steven Gaisbichler, ‘22 “ROGERS, ROGERS, ROGERS, ROGERS. I’M 100 PERCENT ROGERS”
