Kicking Into Action: Brentwood Soccer Gains Traction

The subtle fall breeze graces our campus once again, heralding the return of the Senior Boy’s competitive soccer team. Brentwood fields are alive with the determination of our ambitious men’s soccer players, who recently showcased their skills at the ISA Tournament hosted by St. Michael’s in Victoria. Our team returned to campus infused with youthful exuberance and radiant smiles, reaffirming the significance of the Brentwood “B” on their jerseys. Each time they step onto the field, they carry the legacy and expectations of past Brentwood teams, channeling that motivation into their play, as demonstrated this past weekend.

With a roster of 22 resolute players, the team embodied the ethos of “We are all in this together. It is more about the progress and the process right now, than the result” a principle set forth by Coach Wesley Barrett. “Of course we play the game to try and score goals and win games, but for us, this time of year is about understanding the references and learning each other’s habits on the field.”

Throughout the five games, players embraced unfamiliar positions and worked diligently to meld into a cohesive and strategic unit. Isaac K, Whittall ‘25, a dedicated goalie during the tournament, emphasised the palpable passion for the game on the field, “especially when Isaac R scored, which showcased our team’s unwavering support for one another,” remarked Isaac. “The team’s passion for the game was shown on the field” says another valuable member of the team, Isaac R. While it may appear to be just a regular high school soccer match, the intensity of their dedication and love for the sport is shaping unforgettable memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Although the weekend’s results may not have been as desired, this tournament revealed more than just a ranking. It offered a glimpse into what the upcoming fall term games hold and highlighted the Senior Boy’s idea of what it truly means to “Play for the ‘B’.”
