Excited for playoffs and coming off of a tournament win, the Senior A Girls Basketball team geared up to play their annual Showcase game against the Shawnigan Lake Stags (SLS). At 7:00 pm last Tuesday, students got the chance to miss one night of studying to cheer on the girls as they tried to increase their record with SLS from 1-0 to 2-0. The last match they played was at the RCMP Tournament where they barely won by four points, so Brentwood was excited to see another head-to-head battle on our turf. Captain Peyton H, Hope ‘24 described the anticipation of the match as “a good challenge for our team before playoffs start”!
Once all the fans had piled into the gym and signs were up for crowd favourites, Brentwood Seniors Ella K & Aysha D, Allard ‘24, Simret S, Mack ‘24 and Peyton took to the court for tip-off, alongside Ruby D, Allard ‘25. This was the last game that the Senior Girls would host at home, so for these seniors, it would be their last basketball game at Brentwood ever.
By the end of the first quarter, the Stags were up 9-7, but the girls fought back and found themselves up at the end of the third 44-36. There were great shots put up by Helen M, Allard ‘27 in the key, and Head Prefect, Simret was a difference maker on defence. Finally, at the end of the fourth quarter, Cleo K, Allard ‘25, made some crucial shots that helped the girls finish the game with a ‘W’, 57-53.
These talented athletes put on an absolute show for our community, and we are so proud of them for all of their hard work which has led them to great results this season! Siera E, Mack ‘25 said, “I am very excited to play with and for these girls these next couple of weeks”. This speaks to the unity and grit exemplified by this team. Congrats, girls, on the convincing win!

Editor’s Note: Seven determined members of the team travelled up the Island during the midterm where they won both games to become North Island Champions. Their next action is at the Islands this weekend in Victoria.
