Senior Boys Provincial Silver

With their Island Championship win, the Senior Boys Basketball team secured the #4 spot in the draw at the Provincials last week. This led them to open play against the #13 ranked team, Charles Hays Secondary, in the opening round. Though there were nerves shown in the opener, the boys got it done 82-54, and Captain Milan P, Privett ‘24, was awarded Player of the Game for his stellar performance.

Game #2 was the quarterfinals against Westsyde Secondary and the boys knew that it would not be an easy feat. They started the game with a bang, ending the first quarter up 16-6. They didn’t let up on either end of the court and walked away with the win, 83-57. Julian B, Ellis ‘25, was awarded Player of the Game and led the team with 22 points. When asked what went right, he stated “We were in rhythm with each other. No matter who was on the court, we moved well together which made it easier to take the difficult shots”.

The Brentwood Boys knew they had to bring their A game in round three, as their next opponent, Langley Christian, had just taken down the #1 ranked team – and reigning Provincial Champions – the King George Dragons, the team Brentwood fell short against in ‘23 in the Championship Game. The crowd was packed with hundreds of Langley fans, and around thirty Brentwood supporters including our most recent three Athletic Prefects: Jocie L, Mack ‘22, Dylan G, Whittall ‘23 and Katie L, Mack ‘24. All three of these Prefects knew what to expect of the team and we could not wait to watch this thrilling match.

It was a tight game, but the exceptional rebounds made by Taylor E, Rogers ‘24 and Jackson L, Ellis ‘26 were what set Brentwood ahead of Langley. The boys celebrated their semifinal victory, 58-52. From her sport in the stands Brynn W, Mack ‘25 described the match as “amazing to watch live in LEC. It’s incredibly entertaining”.

Finally, the moment the boys had waited 365 days for: The Championship Game. This time, their opponents were the Collingwood Cavaliers. Up until the halfway point in the fourth quarter, both teams were trading points. Unfortunately, the momentum swung Collingwood’s way, and with about 1.30 left in the game, they were up by 6 points. Our team worked hard on defence and still put up quality shots, but eventually fell short, 54-62. Head of School, Mr Patel concluded “They will now take their rightful place in Brentwood’s sporting history”.

Though this is not the outcome the boys wanted, they exceeded all expectations and rose to every occasion they faced. Congrats to Milan P for a First Team All-Star Award, and Taylor E for being named The Defensive Player of the Tournament.
