Island Adventures – Junior Girls Edition

It all started on the bus ride from our campus to Mark Isfeld Secondary School in Comox. We started by blasting songs on the bus to get us ready for the game against Claremont. It was a long and fun bus ride there and the energy brought us all the way to a 41-36 win against Claremont for our first game.

The funny thing is the winner of that game had to play Isfeld and Isfeld was so sure that Claremont would beat us that they told their ENTIRE school to come watch them play Claremont at 5pm. However, we ended up playing them and even though we worked hard we sadly suffered a tough loss. Helen M, Allard ‘26 won Player of the Game.

There was lots of team bonding throughout this trip as people really got to know and appreciate each other not just as teammates, but as people as well.

We sadly suffered another loss against Vanier. It was a very tough and physical game and Kionah W, Allard ‘27 ended up winning Player of the Game. Our very last day we had to face Claremont again. We decided on the way there to listen to music on the bus again in hopes that it would give us the same turnout as our first game against them. While getting ready in the change room we exchanged notes of appreciation for our teammates which gave us a huge boost of support and teamwork.

It was a very intense game and ended up going into overtime as Kionah hit a three with just a couple seconds left on the clock. Just as we got into the single overtime, one of our starters fouled out shaking us a little, but we got through it, just as we thought we won the game one of their players hit a three with a couple seconds on the clock turning it into a double overtime.

It was intense and everyone was exhausted, but we continued to fight for the win. The final score was 62-54 for us, meaning we got a win for many of the team’s last junior game. Sierra GG won Player of the Game.

Then, we had to rush out after the glorious win in order to get Kionah and Helen back in time to play with the Senior Girls that night, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t celebration: we spent the entire bus ride back singing songs we all knew and talking about our eventful weekend and reminiscing on all the fun memories we get to keep forever.

We think the whole team can agree that it’s been an extraordinary season and we can’t imagine doing it with a better group. Thanks to our coaches, Ms Napier, Ms Toporowski & Ms Yang for all of their dedication.
