Hitting the Hoops Court

The time has officially come: the start of the second term, but more importantly, the commencement of the Senior Girls’ Basketball season. Each year athletes wait in anticipation of hitting the court and representing Brentwood.

With fierce spirits and determination in their eyes, players are ready to showcase their talent and pride in the sport of basketball. Girls’ basketball has been working tirelessly to prepare for the upcoming season. Through preseason sessions, workouts, and talks, this core group of athletes is more unified than ever before. Cleo K, Allard ‘25 shares that “The preseason has been great for the team because we have been able to learn and grow on and off of the court”.

Their dedication goes beyond physical training and is shown through their trust, resilience, and competitiveness. With this, they look forward to attending many tournaments from Nanaimo to Victoria to Vancouver. Their ultimate goal, like many teams at Brentwood, is to clinch a spot in the BC School Sports 2A Provincial Championships.

Last year, the team made it and earned themselves a ranking of 16th place. Defying the odds, they came 12th which sets the team up this year for success. Siera E, Mackenzie ‘25 says that “Provincials last year was amazing and I can’t wait to hopefully do it again!” To accomplish this, the girls will need to face tough Island competition like SMUS and Lambrick Park. While this will take much hard work and dedication, the girls are ready to bring their all.

As the season quickly progresses, the team has already played at their first tournament at Nanaimo District defeating Vanier, NDSS & Royal Bay- undefeated. Ms Napier, Head Coach, says that the girls “should be proud of their performance”. We also welcome our new Assistant Coach Ms Candice Bates, who played DIV 1 at Ohio University and will have much to teach us.

The team looks forward to developing together as they head to Vancouver this weekend and then shoot for the provincial championship when we return in January.
