House Rivalries Hit a Feverish Pitch

It has finally begun to feel like spring – the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and Interhouse Soccer has taken over the field. As one of the most anticipated events of the season, it surely did not disappoint.

The afternoon kicked off with tension in the air as teams gathered early to get in some last-minute preparations. As minutes ticked by, the sidelines began to fill and a lively crowd quickly formed. Kionah W, Allard ‘27 and Varsity Soccer player shared that “The field buzzed with excitement”.

The first matches to hit the pitch were from the girls’ bracket. Hope came up short against Allard in a game that was both intense and tactical. Hope’s relentless pressure and quick passes left the defence on their toes, but Allard’s teamwork prevailed, making it thrilling to watch. On the adjacent field, Mackenzie and Alexandra battled it out in a game driven by grit and determination. Mack’s defense was strong, but Alex’s offence could not be stopped, leading them to a 2-0 victory.

The sun dipped lower, but the cheers grew louder as it was time for the guys’ teams to suit up. Ellis faced Privett in a fast-paced and physical battle. Ellis started strong, but Privetts’ quick counters gave them the edge, handing Ellis a tough loss. On the other field, Rogers took on Whittall in a gritty match. They showed determination, but Whittall’s clinical finishing sealed the win.

In the final match, Alexandra challenged Allard in a high-stakes showdown. Both teams came out firing, but Allard’s coordination and relentless effort proved too much. Despite Alex’s efforts, Allard secured the win and brought the championship title back to the coral reef. Meanwhile, the bronze match saw Hope defeat Mackenzie to claim 3rd place. Elena F, Hope ‘25 and Interhouse Captain says that she was “super proud of everyone who competed and showed up”.

In the boys’ final, Privett clashed with Whittall in a high-intensity game that kept fans on their feet. Both teams fought hard, but Privett had the edge as they clinched gold. Ellis then faced Rogers, finding their rhythm early and claiming the win, securing bronze.

This event once again gave us an afternoon full of passion, energy, and unforgettable moments. From practices to final whistles, every match showcased the heart, hustle and house pride that make these events such a highlight. Ms Fougner, Girls’ Soccer Coach, shares that “every supporter and player helped to make an atmosphere of true community”.

Thanks to the coaches who organized the event, the House Sports Captains who marshalled their athletes, and the footballers who gave it their all.
