Siera @ Wales: The Canadian U18 Field Hockey Tour
April 13 through 21, the Canadian U18 Women’s Field Hockey team went on tour to Cardiff, Wales, playing three matches against the U18 Welsh team. Brentwood’s Siera Edstrand was a part of this tour after training with Canada’s NextGen Field Hockey program for several months.
Through her battles and blocks, Siera blossomed as an athlete. The prowess of the Welsh team provided her with intense gameplay on an international stage. Each game Siera played tested her but also sharpened her skills, providing invaluable playing experience.
Thinking back on her time abroad, Siera shared, “I had such a great experience representing Canada on tour in Wales. While it was intense and nerve-wracking, I had a lot of opportunities for growth and learning that ultimately made me a better player.” Sophie M, Allard ‘25, expresses her excitement for her teammate: “It is an exceptional accomplishment that she made the U18 Canada Field Hockey team, and I am so happy for her!”
As Siera embarks on this new Canadian Field Hockey journey, it is important to acknowledge the hard work she has been putting in on and off the field hockey pitch. Her strong presence on the field made her the perfect choice for this year’s Co-Captain of the XI Field Hockey team, as she has been a big piece of the puzzle on the team since she arrived in Grade 10.
Ms Rachel Reynolds, Coach of the First XI , reflected on their time together, noting, “It was wonderful to see Siera selected to represent Canada in Wales. She has been an integral part of the varsity team for the past three years, and it was great to see her hard work pay off!”Additionally, Siera has been a core player on the Senior Girls’ Basketball and Soccer teams, bringing her enthusiasm and passion to every play, whether it’s on the turf or court. She recently won the award for the Defensive Player of the Year for the Senior Basketball team.
Being a friend and teammate of Siera’s has been an absolute joy, and I couldn’t be prouder of her incredible athletic achievements!
