Fonts, Photos and Friendship: Brentwood’s Yearbook Team
Ever wonder how the Brentwood yearbook and supplement come together? It’s most definitely not magic; it’s the very talented, hardworking, and creative students involved in the yearbook team.
All year round, members of yearbook work hard to create take photos, prep layouts and write captions. We take great pride in our work and strive for perfection, ensuring every single student is included in the yearbook, while creating unique captions and titles that enhance every page.
Yearbook is not just about creating pages in a book; it requires many skills. There’s layout and design, where students work closely with Ms Rusman, who is our lead designer, to create beautiful layouts that allow us to incorporate our own artistic touches, while also maintaining very high standards.
But there are two more skills, including captioning, where everything comes together. Students write witty, informative, and engaging captions that give the context behind the photos. “Captioning is very difficult, but it’s also really fun because I can make it really funny by including jokes and referring to current slang that most people will understand,” shares veteran Zoe G, Alex ‘26.
Lastly, we have photography. Spending time in and outside of class, with cameras in hand, yearbookers take photos of school events, sports games, arts, academics and all (how many clubs are there?) the clubs within the school. We need to take clear, high-quality images that have action and happy faces so that happy memories fill our tome.
“I really enjoy yearbook. It’s very fun with my friends, and I get to be a part of something that is important to the school. It is also very fun to take pictures of my peers,” shares yearbook member Stella B, Hope ‘27. With many people, mainly females, screaming “No!” as members of yearbook walk in with a camera, we get to experience a different perspective of the school.
Ultimately, yearbook offers a unique perspective on capturing the Brentwood story while also being a part of it.
While toiling in the shadows, a great deal of work is being completed including gathering photos for each layout, and meeting deadlines. I’d like to thank Mr Ganley, who is our Editor, and Ms Rusman, for the endless hours they put in to make sure everything is perfect and on time.
The finished yearbook is a reflection of the success our team has has over the year. It’s very rewarding, often challenging, but ultimately results in a permanent keepsake that highlights the amazing Brentwood experience. It is a testament to their hard work, and we hope you will cherish the memories captured within the yearbook and supplement.
As Mr Ganley reflects, “The students work hard, and we take a lot of pride in ensuring every event and every student gets several great photos in the yearbook. We hope it will be enjoyed in June – and for decades to come.”
