Term 2: Light In The Tunnel

Bouncing into the new year, Term 2 is two weeks in. Winter Term, known for its rainy days with no sight of the sun, and we poor students drowning in assignments, is off to a quick start.

Worry not! Brentwood keeps the students very busy, lifting morale with fun events: the community has many moments to look forward to for the next eight weeks

January 19th to 24th, for example, is Spirit Week, six days full of fun activities. Let’s go through the week …

Starting strong on Monday, the school has Twin Day (dress like your twin), which includes a scavenger hunt, as well as Interhouse Mario Kart! Day 2 offers a House Colour Explosion, with students wearing full house colours.

Brentwood better have a sweet tooth, because Day Three is Sweet Treats & Searching, with an ice cream sundae bar, and the students’ favourite food choices for dinner; this will be a fulfilling day.

Day 4 concludes the scavenger hunt, but also brings BEAT’s Interhouse Rap & Rewards Competition. Every house composes and performs an environmental rap with winners performing in front of the whole school.

Friday brings Interhouse Giant Jenga & Double Stamps: this McNeill’s special includes double stamps on all drinks for day 5, as well as hosting the grand event of Interhouse Jenga!

Lastly, to conclude this amazing week, there will be a School Spirit Showcase, where the students will dress in black and red, ready to cheer for Hockey Night in Mill Bay with the girls facing off at 5:00 and the boys at 7:00.

This is only one week of events! There are still many more to come, like Winterlude on January 28th, when the entire school will head up to Mt. Washington for a day full of snow activities with options ranging from cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, tubing, or enjoying a cup of hot chocolate in the lodge. Students will have a nice day off up in the mountains. Winterlude is a day to spend time with friends and to “get sendy”, as Hillary S, Alex ‘27 would say.

Looking forward to February, there will be two more Showcase events starting with Senior Girls Basketball, featuring GISS, on February 2nd. Following this, the Senior Boys Basketball team will host their own Showcase game later on in the month. These events help bring the school community together, lifting spirits as we cheer. As TCH, Ellis Houseparent would say, everyone needs to go “Goat Mode”.

The second term also features the Vancouver Model UN, a six-day midterm break in early February, the exciting opportunities presented by Careers Day, several rowing regattas, Kindness Week, the performances of Cinderella, and, starting in early March, an almost three-week break before we return for the spring. The busy life of Brentwood is not only academics and school work, but it also includes fun social activities. Each of these activities helps students get through the stretches of challenging academic work.

The busy bees of Brentwood, soon enough, will be leaving for Spring Break, with new memories and a fun time had.  See you then!
