Encore: Jump and Twirl into Brentwood’s Newest Dance Production

Sneakers have squeaked across the dance floor, arms and legs have been extending perfectly in the air, and music still thumps through the rooms; this is a typical day at Brentwood’s dance studio. Our dancers will turn an empty stage into a story full of vibrant performances after months of hard work and practice for their upcoming dance show in May, Encore.

Encore, meant to be high-energy, is bringing dazzling numbers that will leave the audience amazed, wanting to turn it up and dance to some great music. The spectacular performances, ranging from classical ballet to hard-hitting hip-hop, will fill the Killy Theatre with enthusiasm and demonstrate the effort and months-long practice that have been put into making every number perfect. Our new dance teacher, Ms Megan Rea, has hit the ground running and has been giving her utmost to meticulously create the show and shape these talented dancers into stage-readiness. Ainsley L, Dance Captain, Hope ‘26, said, “I’m so excited to have everyone see our talents shine on our stage. Dance is such a special art, and what we have created is nothing short of amazing.”

Recently, dancers have been working with a guest choreographer, Dyllon, for their fiery hip-hop part of the performance. Dyllon is described as “a master at transitions and movement on stage.” From jumps in the air to fast-paced, controlled movements, Dyllon has been a mentor, guiding these skilled dancers into new choreography. Emilia H, Hope ‘27 said, “I have loved learning from Dyllon; this has been a fun challenge.” Under Dyllon’s creative direction, Brentwood dancers have been pushed beyond their comfort zones and have discovered a new level of confidence that will be brought to the stage in May. Working with Dyllon has not just sharpened their technique, but also their teamwork. This makes the dance a cohesive work that has been fuelled by inspiration.

Dancers have also been immersing themselves in jazz choreography filled with iconic moves. Everything from high kicks to expressive, slinky arms has filled the dance studio with energy and precision. Inspired by everything from 1920’s Fosse-style jazz to modern jazz, the routines have been created with a blend of old and new, with a touch of flair, of course.

Contemporary dances are also well in progress, shaping this style into a powerful work of art that tells a story of connection and empowerment. Ms Rea shared, “The Brentwood dancers have been working incredibly hard this year in preparation for our Evening of Dance. This year’s performance, Encore, features an exciting lineup of iconic songs and artists. On top of that, our dancers have had an amazing opportunity to work with a hip hop choreographer from Victoria, Dyllon Pallot, who created several dynamic pieces for the show. So many students have shared how much fun it has been collaborating with him. Personally, I cannot wait for audiences to witness the hard work, dedication, and outstanding talent our dance students bring to the stage. We are incredibly proud of the artistry and energy they’ve poured into this production.”

As performance night is quickly approaching, it is clear that Brentwood’s dance program is much more than a show. Coming together, filling a studio full of love, learning, and grit is what defines Brentwood Dance. We are ready to celebrate the perseverance, passion, and powerful journey these stars have been on.
