Senior Boys Hockey
Coming off a very successful season last year, all the players came into this year with high hopes and expectations. Though we lost a core group of Grade 12s, we did not let that stand in our way.
Our season, however, had a rocky start, with losses and ties in our first couple of games. After a few weeks, the team began to build synergy, and those early losses turned into close games, ties, and eventually wins. We vividly recall our first game against Shawnigan, which we lost 5-3. It was very close, and its significance was that the following weekend, we had our Showcase event against them. Going into this game, we all knew it was a must-win, and the energy in the room was formidable. Everyone who watched the game would tell you that the hockey Showcase environment is always electric, and this year was no exception. The game was an absolute battle, going back and forth, ending in a 3-2 overtime win, with the winning goal scored by Captain Daimon G.
Following Showcase we hosted the annual Ross Cup. We had our work cut out for us playing extremely skilled teams from Vancouver College, Prince of Wales, and Cowichan Secondary School. We ended our 3-game pool play with a loss, a win, and a tie. Due to these results, we fell just short of our long-term goal of qualifying for the semi-finals, bringing our season to an abrupt end.
Though this is not the outcome any of us wanted, we are eternally grateful for everything this team gave us. Lasting far beyond the wins and losses are the memories and lessons this team gave, which we will always cherish. We would like to thank the Coaches so much for everything they gave to this team, all the players for the unforgettable memories, and we wish all of the 12s nothing but the best. Thank you.
