Senior Girls Soccer Season Comes to an End

It was a phenomenal season for the Senior Girls Soccer Team, marked by grit, growth and impressive postseason runs. From the very first kick-off, this squad brought incredible energy to the pitch, blending veteran leadership with new junior talent. Through weeks of tough matchups and relentless teamwork, the girls proved they could compete with the best teams on the Island. 

Here is a look back at what the team accomplished:

The girls kicked off their postseason by finishing in the top three in league play, comfortably qualifying for the North Island Championship. 

Travelling up to the Comox Valley, the team faced a tough opening match against the host team, Isfeld. Undeterred by the setback, they bounced back with two brilliant wins against Carihi and Shawnigan to punch their ticket to the third-place match. There, they defeated Bellenas to secure their spot at the Island Championship. “It was a whole team effort to win our games and make it to Islands with such a young team made up of a lot of junior girls,” says Nev K, Mack ‘26, Co-Captain of the team.

At Islands, hosted by Edward Milne in Sooke, the team was placed in a very competitive pool alongside Isfeld, Shawnigan and the host school. The squad headed into the tournament field with excitement and momentum coming off the promising wins at North Islands.“The weather was nice, and it was definitely an amazing day,” shares Rachael H, Mack ‘27.

Day one of Islands, the girls opened the tournament in great fashion, playing incredible soccer, securing a 5-0 victory over Edward Milne. In the second match, they faced a familiar foe, Isfeld, the eventual Island Champions. Despite a hard-fought battle, the girls unfortunately fell short and lost that game.

Going into day two, well rested and determined, the team returned to the pitch with high hopes. Matched up once again with local rivals Shawnigan, the squad delivered a stellar performance and came out on top with a 3-1 win. A huge shout-out goes to Julia M, Mack ‘28, who locked in the victory with a spectacular hat-trick! This win set the team into the third-place match against Gulf Islands, with a chance at Provincials on the line. Fighting through fatigue and multiple games in 48 hours caught up to the squad, as the team fell just short in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss which wrapped up the season with an impressive fourth-place finish on the Island. 

Ultimately, it was a highly successful season, and the team has every reason to be proud of itself. While graduating seniors, Nev K and Fiona C, will be dearly missed, the roster remains incredibly strong. With only two departures on the team, the future of the soccer program is very promising. 

A massive thank you to Coach Barrett and amazing manager Ms Fougner, for all they do to support the team. “Next year will definitely be another great season, and I hope we can do just as great as this year,” shares Ms Fougner.
