Senior Boys Soccer at Saltspring

The senior boys travelled to Saltspring Island on October 8th for what is always a tightly contested match. This game was no exception. The Gulf Islands team took an early lead off a set piece when the Brentwood side were slow to react to a high ball into the box. The goal spurred the our boys to step up the intensity and were rewarded when Connor S ran on to a deep ball from the midfield and coolly put the game tying goal away. Brentwood had an opportunity to jump into the lead when we were awarded a penalty shot. Although the shot was taken well, it struck the post with the goalie beaten. The game seesawed back and forth and was ultimately decided with a handful of minutes remaining when Saltspring capitalized when our marking was not as committed as we have been in the past.
In fairness a draw would been a reasonable outcome given the chances from both sides. There was an air of intensity about, with the referree handing out at least six yellow cards to Saltspring. Credit to our boys who kept to the task and only drew the one yellow. Final score: 2-1 for GISS.
