A Guided Tour of the Hallway Photo Show

The Camera Arts Program is proud to present its first official hallway show in the Old Academic Building and features work by three levels of photographers working in three different disciplines. The Hallway Photo Show, unknown previously as “the photos in the basement hallway show”, grew from two large, plexiglas-encased displays, into what it is today: a vibrant and subtle display of some of the best photographs taken by each discipline. For those visiting our campus, we have provided a guided tour through the gallery.

Stepping across the basement threshold, from new to old academia, looking left one is greeted by a colourful digital photography display featuring the work of second-year digital photographers in response to three assignments: 'Your passion', 'Self-Portrait' and 'Motion' in a still photograph. The centerpiece is a 4-piece emotions presentation by Mona. Further down the hallway is the realm of Black & White photography – the birthplace of all Brentwood photographers. Here displayed are two panels of second-year traditional (film) photographers featuring the same assignment challenges as their compatriots in the digital program. Around the first corner towards the Pottery Room, facing the processor darkroom, are two panels of photographs taken by the beginners in the traditional (film) photography program. The panels feature the results of two assignments: First Black & White print and Making Art. Back in the hallway on the right and around the corner to the stairs, are the two panels featuring the work of our “elite” team of photo-art students. Their display is the result of a 6-week Famous Photographers assignment where the students researched a chosen famous photographer and then made photographs using techniques learned or by emulating the chosen photographer’s style. Tucked beside the fire extinguisher, facing up the stairs, are the photos of the week, this week's featuring a superb moody self-portrait by Navneet and an exquisite dance studio image of two dancers by Nicole.
