The Senior Boys basketball team participated in the 16 team Spartan-Ram Invitational Tournament over the weekend and played some of their best basketball of the year with 4 wins over quality AAA opponents.  In the opening round Brentwood faced off against a big and talented Spectrum (Victoria) team.  The boys played 3 terrific quarters and led by 22 pts going into the fourth but had to fight off a late rally by Spectrum to preserve a 75-70 victory.  In the second round, Brentwood advanced to play Fraser Heights (Surrey).  The boys jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as some hot shooting allowed them to coast to a 78-60 win.  In the semi-final, Brentwood faced a quick and athletic team from Guilford Park.  Despite getting themselves excellent opportunities, the boys struggled to convert some relatively easy looks but outstanding defense allowed them to to lock down Guilford Park and secure a 64-52 victory and a berth in the tournament final.  Playing their 4th game in three days, Brentwood suited up on Saturday evening against a talented team from Delta SS.  After a terrible start to the game, the team settled down and once again put forward an outstanding effort on the defensive end.  Nonetheless, it took a last second lay-up by James L to steal the game from Delta in a thrilling 56-55 win.  Capturing this tournament title was a wonderful accomplishment for Brentwood given the depth of talent in the draw – three AAA provincially ranked teams competed (including Delta).  The work ethic, spirit and toughness of the entire team was impressive all weekend long.  Next weekend the team is off to the Victoria Police Tournament at St. Michaels University School.  Their opening round game is Thursday at 5:15 pm against Windsor Secondary.
