Cheers to Debate!

This past Saturday, October 2nd, the debate team set off to Glenlyon Norfolk School for the initial Van Isle debate tournament. Against a heated roster of competitors from Shawnigan Lake School, Glenlyon, SMUS and Oak Bay, Brentwood went in sweating, but came out as chill as can be. Two of our teams were awarded medals: James L and Stacey K placed second, and Shannon B and Bailey L third. In the individual category Yasyf M placed second in junior and Stacey first in senior. The debaters impressed the judges with ‘cheersable’ arguments which superbly clashed with their opponents’ ambiguous definitions, and excellent utilization of an extensive vocabulary. The Brentwood team looks forward to a promising season that assures many more surprising – and splendid – results. James L
