Brentwood Earns Silver at Spartan Ram Classic

The Senior Boys’ basketball team attended the Spartan-Ram Classic Tournament this weekend to defend their title. As these were our first games after the Christmas break, it was a test for the team. On Friday afternoon, Brentwood opened against McNair. Early on, the team dug in defensively and fought hard for rebounds giving us a 9 point lead at halftime. In the second half, the boys shot the ball well, dominated the offensive glass, and ran away with an 82-45 win.

In their second game, Brentwood faced a young but talented AAA team from Mt. Doug Secondary. The boys stepped on the court with great energy and had a few good looks from beyond the 3 point line giving us a 16 point lead at half. In the third quarter, Mt. Doug was aggressive on the boards which led to some easy second chance baskets. Our boys, however, kept their composure in the final quarter and were able to finish with an 84-67 victory.

In the final, Brentwood faced the provincially #9 ranked AAA Claremont Spartans. In the first half, the boys were unable to perform their best. A lack of ball movement resulted in turnovers putting us down 10 points at halftime. The team battled hard in the second half, but struggled to execute and ultimately fell short in their quest for gold. Nonetheless, the boys had a successful weekend and demonstrated terrific team spirit and hard work.

Brentwood’s next game is Thursday, January 13 at 10:15pm a.m. when they take on Reynolds in the opening round of the Victoria City Police Tournament hosted by St Michael’s University School. Nick W, Manager
