With Orientation nearing its end, new students settling into their houses, the first Interhouse event of the year, Fun & Games, was fast approaching was. New students and Orientation Assistants dress head to toe in house colors and filled the Foote Centre with house spirit.

Fun & Games is the first Interhouse event of the year, and it is the perfect opportunity for new students to get a taste of interhouse. Although Fun & Games is not for points, it is one of the biggest interhouse events of the year, and the atmosphere in the gym was filled with house pride.

When asked about his first Fun & Games experience, Callum S, Ellis ‘29 said “It felt surreal to see hundreds of high school students so enthusiastic about games I played when I was 10.” He followed it up by saying “Fun & Games was a lovely introduction to Ellis House pride and Brentwood’s Interhouse culture.” His close friend and roommate Carl MR, Ellis ‘29 similarly noted, “As a new student coming all the way from Germany, I was expecting a culture shock when coming to Canada. However, nothing could have prepared me for Fun & Games. It was extraordinary to see people I met two days ago, so excited over a house they have only spent a night in.”

Fun & Games is not just fun for the students, but it is also enjoyable for the staff. When asked about his thoughts on Fun & Games Mr Toby Collis-Handford remarked, “Fun & Games is bonding disguised as competition. While it’s true that it’s the first time the four brother-sister houses compete against each other, far more importantly, it’s the first time the brother-sister houses come together as a true team.”

Overall, the event was a great time for all, and an enjoyable first interhouse event of the school year. What a way to start the year!
