Grade 11 Leadership

1 June 2011Clara D

With less than a month left in the 2010/2011 year, the time has come for the next generation of school leaders to step up. With the Grad celebrations just concluded, the end of the reign of Grad 2011 is looming on the horizon. Grade 11s have been in the process of shadowing grads for house duties for some weeks now, but the first tangible challenge for next year’s leaders occurred at the recent Grade 11 leadership retreat.

The retreat, held at the Easter Seals Camp on Shawnigan Lake, used games and activities to build communication and leadership skills. It was organized by a group of committed grads and SPARC members under the direction of Mrs. Andrea Felix, who collaborated for months to make it a day to remember. The unique dynamic of the day was generated by the 12 randomly selected groups which fostered new friendships and connections. Each team came up with a team name, ranging from “The Gold Diggers” to “The Mighty Flowers”, a team cheer, and a skit to poke fun at the idiosyncrasies of Brentwood life.

The day was a rotation of activities including canoeing, swimming, dodge ball and the return of the Fun and Games Night ‘Ukrainian skis’ with groups competing for the title of overall winner. The enthusiasm and energy of Grad 2012 was evident to all present: it is a group that will do wonderful things in the coming year. It is clear that the senior role at Brentwood is being left in good hands.

Grad 2012, keeping it true.
