It takes an impressive amount of talent to handle a busy schedule full of intense arts, rigorous academics, and demanding athletics. So it’s rather admirable that Brentwood students manage to handle it all with such grace and skill. It’s so remarkable, in fact, that some may wonder if they are all equipped with some secret super power!

On Saturday the 29th, Brentwood’s students pulled out their super hero costumes and showed off that hidden prowess of theirs! Hope House and Rogers House came together to host the “Rope Open House”- the first open house of the year. Dressed to the nines, the student body made their way to the party to have a well-deserved night off to enjoy one of many exciting features of Brentwood life.

For those who do not know what an open house is, it is a monthly wonderful event where a boarding house opens up its doors one evening of the year to all of their peers and hosts a themed party. Students get to enjoy dressing up in eccentric, fun costumes and seeing what their friend’s rooms look like.

With the black lights, unfamiliar faces and super hero-themed decorations, the houses of Hope and Rogers were barely recognizable. The transformation of the building was most obvious in the Hope House common room (where the dance floor was) which had been altered into the “Bat Cave” for the night. It was fascinating to see students dressed up like characters from popular movies and comic books wandering the halls, marveling at rooms they had never seen before and dancing with their friends.

One of the best things about the open house is the opportunity it gave us Grade 12s of Hope and Rogers to work together. Because Hope and Rogers share a building, it is important that we maintain a solid, considerate relationship. The open house was the perfect way for our two houses to collaborate and get to know each other better. To promote the open house, Andrew L (Rogers, Gr.12) filmed an amusing two-part video featuring the House Captains of Hope and Rogers, Charlotte D and Tim L. Being the first open house of the year, there was an impressive turn out.

The Hope girls and Rogers boys had a wonderful time showing off their house and once it was over, we were all immensely pleased that our peers enjoyed themselves. I’m sure we all agree it will be remembered as the best open house of the year!
