Cash Only Please – “Project Innovation”

19 October 2012Mr. Blake Gage, Entrepreneurship 12

On Wednesday, Oct 17th, seven entrepreneurial teams gathered in the McNeill Student Centre to make their presentations, count their money and conclude the 9th Annual BCS Innovation Project. A distinguished and knowledgeable panel of business leaders from the Mill Bay community was on hand to witness the presentations and select the winner of the “Innovation Award” – given to the team with the most innovative and sustainable business venture.  After much deliberation, the judges finally tallied their scores and awarded the prize to the “Brentwood Torch Card” venture team of Andrew Y, Marise H, Trenton G, Max W and Nambi M.

The Torch Card is a student discount card the group created with local businesses (Subway, A&W, Brugo’s, Bare Essentials and Third Addition) to provide Brentwood students with discounts for their products.

The second prize of the night was the coveted ROI Award, which would be presented to the team that generated the greatest return on its initial investment. Considering no group was permitted to invest more than $5 per team member, and had a little over two weeks to plan and operate, the results were impressive. The ROI Award went to “Prep Threads” for their apparel venture. Team members included Zoe B, Aidan C, Karly D, Brendan S and Blair W who made a profit of over $1600 by selling their custom tank tops to staff and students on campus.

All venture teams were impressive in their presentations and it was wonderful to see these students donate the bulk of their earnings to a variety of local charities.  Congratulations to all participants for making the 9th Annual “Project Innovation” a terrific success.
