Island Champions!

Following a statistically meaningless loss to GNS in our final round robin game, the Brentwood Junior Boys soccer team advanced to unknown territory: the Island Championship Final. Playing against soccer powerhouse Mark Isfeld as underdogs, we started fantastically well with a great goal from striker Brendon K. From there, we defended our slim lead until halftime.

Both Isfeld and Brentwood played a strong second half, but in the dying seconds of the game, Isfeld were able to snatch an equalizer. We were only seconds away from winning in regulation, but Isfeld fought strongly. After a tense period of extra time, nothing could separate the two squads.

Except penalty kicks.

Even with great penalties from Ulysses G, Reid A, and Aaron H, accompanied by stunning saves by keeper Jackson H, we were still tied after 5 penalties.

A 6th penalty was taken from each team.

Still tied.

Isfeld then took their 7th penalty and rocketed the shot off the crossbar wide. Then up stepped Brentwood sweeper Colin W.

He scored, giving Brentwood’s Junior Boys our first ever Island Championship!

The Brentwood Junior Boys Island Champions would like to thank Mr. Johnston, Mr. Gage, and Mr. Patel for coming and supporting us and also a special thanks to Reid A and Jackson H for missing their regatta for our team. And of course, to our coaches, Mr. Collis (who has been like a father to me 😉 ) and Mr. Kulai.

This was an incredibly successful term of soccer.
