Under the direction of Mrs. Felix, Brentwood’s peer counseling group (also known as SPARC) annually organizes Drug Awareness Day. Assisted by SPARC volunteers, Raveena K, Sara S and Maddy H worked tirelessly with Mrs. Felix to make D.A.D. not only possible, but also a huge success.

The goal of the daylong workshop is to educate Grade 10s about the effects of drugs and to help guide them towards safe and wise decision-making.

Divided into groups of about 15, the students listen to a series of speeches and participated in activities focused on the principles of safe decision making. These included peer-to-peer discussions on how to party safe, a student panel which shared personal stories related to the impact of drugs in their lives, and several guest speakers.

The talks were intended to eliminate myths associated with drugs and alcohol while showing the impact of one’s choices in life. By the end of the day’s speeches, the Grade 10s walked away with the knowledge and the know-how to wisely deal with situations related to drugs and alcohol.
