Mr. Ian McPherson – Director of Communications & Marketing
Mr. Ian McPherson was born and raised in Montreal, but he followed in his father’s footsteps and he spent his high school years at Shawinigan Lake School. He pursued an Honours BA History degree at Queen’s University in Kingston and then returned to the Island as an Assistant House Director, part-time teacher and coach.
He spent the following three years coaching rowing with Mr. Ganley and Mrs. Patel at SLS. He then continued his education at BCIT where he studied Marketing Communications. He then spent the following ten years working in marketing and advertising for several Vancouver-based firms including Grey World Wide, a global advertising firm. Ian spent the past five years working in the global resource sector as the Director of Marketing with a group of mineral exploration companies.
Now, having arrived with his wife, Michele, and his daughters, Parker 5, and Ainsley 1, at Brentwood, Ian sees an opportunity to “leverage my experience with some exceptional global brands to help accelerate the Brentwood brand in this very unique category.” As a new member of the community, he says his choice to “work with passionate people who share a common vision and work for the betterment of their community is easy to feel good about.”
With his experience as a student and faculty member in an independent school, coming to Brentwood seemed a natural fit to combine his experiences in the marketing field with his educational past.
As Brentwood’s Director of Communications and Marketing, Ian’s role is to ensure the world knows what a vibrant and engaging school Brentwood is and the benefits that it can offer students. Working with the Head of School and the Advancement and Admissions teams he will be working to catch the eye of the next generation of students and their families. He believes that Brentwood is a place where young adults come to be empowered in a supportive environment, surrounded by a student body that strives to excel and discover. “This is a special place of character, rooted in a rich history with an incredible array of stories to be told. It allows students to invest their time and efforts into the opportunities that surround them.”
This is the vision of Brentwood that Ian wants to project to the world and to the next generation of Brentonians to Mill Bay.
Mr. McPherson is a valuable addition to Brentwood’s already talented array of faculty and staff. He is part of the Brentwood family now; it’s his turn to leave his mark on the school.
