For the past nine weeks the Girl’s Rugby team has been travelling to Duncan to be a part of the Cowichan Rugby Club. Playing alongside girls from Cowichan and Ladysmith High Schools, this first term has been full of late, Tuesday and Thursday practices, and early Sunday morning games. With an undefeated record, the Cowichan team saw much growth in the abilities of the players of all experience levels. Hopefully, playing competitively for the first term will give us an upper hand when third term comes around, by giving the new players a sense of what the competitive term will be like and introducing them to the sport of rugby. In a week, the girls will be heading to the Island semifinals against the Castaway-Wanderers Rugby Club and hopefully to the finals the following week. With first term coming quickly to an end, the girls are striving for excellence, under the coaching of Mr. Cowie, Mr. Felix, and Brad Skene, which will, with any luck, lead us to a top performance at the Provincial Championships in the spring.
