13th Annual BCS Stock Market Challenge

13th Annual BCS Stock Market Challenge

4 June 2020Mr Blake Gage

Each year, my Financial Accounting 12 class competes in an online Virtual Stock Market Challenge. They are given $100,000 virtual dollars and three months to make as much money as they can. Needless to say, this year was a particularly challenging time as markets were ravaged by Covid-19. Students found their portfolios plummeting overnight and losses were the biggest we have seen since in our thirteen year history.
There were, however, a handful of students who were able to respond quickly and with careful consideration to what they felt would be emerging markets during this unusual time. As a result, our top performers actually were able to achieve some outstanding results and I would like to take this opportunity to recognize their accomplishments.
In 3rd place, with a return of 16.2%, was Pasha B, Rogers ‘20.
Our 2nd place winner was actually sitting in sixth place with just 72 hours remaining in the competition but thanks to a couple of huge and successful gambles, she leapfrogged well into second and had a final return of 46.5%. Congratulations Airi H, Hope ‘21.
Finally, I am pleased to announce our champion, who had one of the most impressive performances I have seen in the history of our competition. He was extremely engaged and spent countless hours  watching and analyzing the markets, so much so that I only hope it did not create problems in his other classes. His final return was an astounding 410%! Congratulations to this year’s winner of the BCS Virtual Stock Market Challenge – David L, Ellis ‘21!
