A Brentwood Weekend: One Day Sunday

Finally. A breath of relaxation following the six strenuous days of school coming to an end. Brentwood students return to their dorms after a Saturday evening outing and shut off their early morning alarms in preparation for the well-deserved weekend on Sunday. Sunday commences with the sound of loud footsteps thundering throughout the house from hungry students heading out for brunch. At 11:00 am, Brentonians, many of them still in their sweatpants and PJ’s, begin to head to Crooks Hall to savor the delicious buffet of various foods. The smell of sizzling bacon and waffles fills the room, reminding students of home or, as Camryn C, Alex ‘19, nostalgically reflects, “waking up to an elaborate, home-cooked meal after a sleep-in.” This includes our famous Bubble Tea, Eggs Benedict, pancakes with sausages, and a multitude of fruits and sweets beautifully displayed across the room. Shortly after, staff and students finish their meals and often make their way to the waterfront, where seals and seagulls can be observed singing and lounging about. Sunday is the perfect day to “appreciate the beautiful campus of Brentwood and what our location has to offer”, says Lindsey P, Allard ‘19. Friends and teachers use their day off to rejuvenate. Basketball courts fill up with athletes taking up a game to enjoy the brand new Foote Athletic Centre, while art studios sound with soft jazz music among painters and sculptors. Gyms and dance studios are open to those who want to fit in a good workout or go for a run, and the library welcome any student who needs to finish homework. During the warmer seasons, the vacant docks are opened up for casual swimming. Bluetooth speakers blare music while people bring out their kayaks and canoes to enjoy the bay and lay out a picnic. Friends link hands together and jump into the waters as cold as ice. Brentwood also has the privilege of seeing a different side of Mr Patel on Sunday. On this day, Mr. Patel is normally walking his dogs, taking strolls with his wife, or maintaining his Movember ‘stache’, a sight for sore eyes. Teachers take pleasure in spending time with their families or taking their children to dance lessons and parties – activities all offered during the weekend. Mr Warner describes his Sunday as “a quick but lovely day to spend with my wife, kids, and our dog, Hudson.” The milky cotton ball clouds clear up, the sky beckons strings of mesmerizing colors throughout the day, and the sun gleams with the brightest of yellow on Sunday. Our Brentwood campus is immersed in an atmosphere of relaxation and rejuvenation, enabling inhabitants to catch up on sleep, hang out with friends, and go out for dinner uptown. Sanjana V, Alex ‘19
