A Fusion of Art & Colour

As you walk into the Centre for Art and Humanities building, you are immediately greeted by a fresh wave of brightness, colour, innovation and creativity. This is the Fusion Art Show, a collection that encompasses months of hard work that students from drawing and painting, pottery, art foundation, and sculpture have been working on to get their classmates, friends, and teachers to see proudly displayed. Zoe N, Mackenzie ‘17 worked hard on her piece in Mr. Luna’s Art Foundations class: “It was a fun and hard thought-out process. Fusion is such a broad theme. There were so many options to work with. In Art Foundations I painted a modern take of The Great Gatsby. It’s an old story with modern elements. I used a pre-used canvas to fuse my project with an old one, and I fused different media: oil pastel, acrylic paint and gold foil.” In ceramics the potters had free rein of what their projects could be. Many used special glaze to fuse different colours together, or even make Christmas-themed bowls with recipe cards for a “fusion of ingredients.” In Drawing and Painting, the students made Pop-art comic style with text featuring their individual ideas for fusion, which are delightful to analyze and wonder about. The show was enjoyed by all who attended. Zach L, Ellis ‘19 observed “It was fun and inspiring to see what people had made. It was interesting to see what people I knew have created in their classes.” For the artists in the show, seeing the whole school enjoying and paying attention to their work was extremely gratifying.
