A Halfterm of BEAT

1 November 2020Mr David McCarty, BEAT Sponsor

This half term the BEAT has sponsored a number of student activities including a hike to Mt Baldy overlooking Shawnigan Lake, a garden harvest where students picked a variety of produce from the school garden to donate to the local food bank, and a mask-making workshop. The latter was repurposing old t-shirts to create face coverings or tote bags using a no-sew method, a good example of recycling as part of Waste Reduction Week.

Currently students are collecting warm clothing and toiletries in the houses to donate to local charities dedicated to the homeless. After midterm, the focus will be on improving our waste streaming efforts by creating extra recycling containers for soft plastic, styrofoam and cardboard in order to keep more of these materials out of the landfills.
