A Morning with the Premier and our MPP

Political Studies 12 is a class where students in Grades 10, 11, and 12 learn about the Canadian political system as well as other national systems and important political ideas and actions. In mid-October our class left campus early to spend the academic morning at the British Columbia Provincial Legislature in Victoria. We had a tour of the beautiful and expansive building, as well as watched a very intense Question Period which included a lot of interesting remarks and rebuttals. It also included our MLA Sonia Furstenau as well as British Columbia Premier John Horgan. At the end of Question Period, our class was lucky enough to have small group session with both Ms Furstenau and The Honorable John Horgan. Mr Horgan expressed to us his strong views on the current referendum on electoral reform, which directly relates to the project we are currently working on in class. Our day ended after many hours exploring our government and what it does. But our time with an MP didn’t end there. On November 13th Ms Furstenau met up with us once again, and this time she came to us. She came to visit our classroom, making stops both with the Political Studies 12 class as well as the AP Comparative Government and Politics group. The class was spent in an open question-and-answer session where she took the time to thoroughly answer the many questions we had prepared for her.
