A Snapshot into Photo Day

To many students, Photo Day may feel like one colossal hassle. Jumping in and out of your number one uniforms, running back and forth between your house and Campbell Common and, on top of that, having to deal with impatient directions from the duo of Mr. Felix & Mr. Fletcher (who in all fairness are just trying to get the job done as well and efficiently as possible). Yes, while in our photo we can see that Oliver B, Whittall ‘18, looks very unimpressed with the whole process, the photo he is about to be in will be hung on the walls of Brentwood (and in the yearbook) for years to come. It is no easy task to organise Photo Day. There is a huge itinerary that must be checked off in order for the day to run smoothly. The weather must be favourable, the time of day must be just right for the lighting, and location has to be perfect. On top of this, the coordination of bringing each and every student down to fit into a small field must be done at a time and date that has these weather and lighting characteristics. April 27th & 28th were the right days for photos occur. On the afternoon of the 27th, students came down in their respective houses to be photographed. First, they had one serious, proper photo. That photo was followed up with a five second gap in which students prepared to act as silly as possible for the next photo. The whole ordeal was amusing to watch. The very next morning, just moments before the morning bell would ring for classes, the moment had come. The whole 530+ student body and more than 150 staff and faculty marched down to Campbell Common for the full school photo. Mr. Fletcher, in order to capture the entirety of the school family, stood atop a large crane, peering down on the students. Somehow, the Fletcher-Felix duo were able to get the whole sea of students to focus up in the sky for a few moments in order to capture the moment, and, just like that, it was over. Mr. Felix announced: “You have five minutes,” which released the waves of students to flood the campus walkways, rushing to change for Jeans Day before classes started. Thus ended Photo Day 2016.
