A Tribute to John Brennan

A Tribute to John Brennan

17 October 2026Jim Ganley

The following speech was delivered by Rachel Miles-Pickup to celebrate the 23 years John Brennan served the Brentwood community. The bountiful botanical beauty of our campus is the product of John’s abundant skill, enthusiasm, and love.

Although I have only had the privilege of working with you, Johnny, for two of your 23 years at Brentwood, the impact you have had on me and the team has been massive.

Johnny, you didn’t just show me the ropes; you took me under your wing.

You taught me endless plant knowledge, including all the Latin names, which I still mess up, and you patiently repeated them.

Beyond the plants, you have taught me the “Brentwood Way”, and most importantly, you gave me the survival guide for working with Tom and Dave. You helped me understand how things need to be and how everything works around here, showing me exactly what to expect as I settled in.

Johnny, you became a mentor and friend in the last two years.

The team and I will miss you dearly: your endless chatting, your wisdom – and the questionable comments that make us all roar with laughter! The firehall will not be the same without you.

The incredible grounds are a testament to your outstanding dedication and hard work. You are leaving a beautiful mark on this place and all our hearts.

Johnny, thank you for your dedication, mentorship and friendship. I know it will be tough for you to sit still, but your body will thank you for slowing down. We all wish you the best in this new relaxing chapter of your life, hunting and fly fishing with your brother and sons.

You have truly earned it
