Alexandra House Captain’s Farewell Message

Orientation began with 28 new members of Alex House. Somehow, all these different students fit into the house perfectly. The first term saw these additions forming great relationships with our returners to the point where it was hard to remember who was new and who wasn’t. We bonded with Whittall, found great success in Interhouse events, and, slowly but surely, Alex House became home to all the students once more.

After the settling in of first term, second and third terms flew by. As the weather chilled, we found comfort in each other, and as it warmed up, we enjoyed it together. The emotions of the house ebbed and flowed, but our community stayed strong. We enjoyed in-house breakfasts, sharing snacks in Big-Littles, and throwing the best open house.

Thank you to everyone who makes Alexandra House the wonderful home that it is. To the 9s who continue to be menaces, the 10s who are the middle children, the 11s who have big shoes to fill, and the 12s who never really figured out the Prefect thing. To the lovely duty staff who put up with our noise and visits during prep. To our BFAs, Ms Barnes and Ms Miller, who are always eager to hear what’s going on with all of us. To Mrs Langer who gives the best advice while trying to get us to sleep – we all can’t wait for the new addition to the Langer fam. To Mrs Warner who has continued to be the most incredible second mother anyone could ask for. All of you have brought so much comfort and joy to a place that will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Goodbye, Alex House. You have been my home for three years, the place I feel the most comfortable, the place with my second family. I learned so much here: how to destroy people at Just Dance and Mario Kart, how to form amazing connections with people, and how to care so deeply for so many. Thank you for some of the best years of my life.
