AppleFest 2024 – Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

AppleFest 2024, featuring tables overflowing with tasty desserts featuring Johnny Appleseed’s favorite fruit, was a huge hit at last Sunday’s brunch. It was also an example of the kind of teamwork that makes our Brentwood Community a very special place.

Step 1: For the past two years, the students of Environmental Advocacy have been pruning the 20 fruit trees on campus. This work has more than doubled the harvest from these trees.

Step 2: Last Thursday, a group of 26 Grade 9s, led by Head Gardener Mr John Brennan and BEAT Captain Ruby S, Hope ‘25 headed up to the orchard and harvested 200 lb of apples. They then delivered them to Crooks hall.

Step 3: Between Thursday and Sunday, our team of highly skilled and passionate Food Service Staff crafted the raw material into mountains of sumptuous sweets.

“This celebration of apples was an example of how we can all help fight the climate crisis by producing and enjoying low-carbon, local food” enthused Mr Ganley, BEAT Sponsor. “Apples are remarkably low carbon!”

“The gluten-free, vegan apple spice cookies were delicious, and if I were less polite, I’d have taken the whole tray” quipped the every hopeful Ms Hedquist.
