Around Alex: The Sequel

Another year has passed in Alex House, filled with waves of joy, wonder, sweet laughter, sadness, happiness – all the fixings. As a house, and as individuals, Alex has surfed these waves with grace. Now, we find our hearts overflowing with memories to cherish and hold dear.

On September 5th, 2023 17 radiant personalities were welcomed into the Dino Fam. These girls were a lovely breath of fresh air that flowed through the house halls, settling into beautiful friendships. The strength of the recently formed connections between new students and returners alike was evident enough from the incessant chatter around the half-occupied house, the chaotic laughter during Fun & Games, and the wholesome – albeit crazy – times spent getting to know our brother house, Whittall. Soon enough, the house was made whole with the returners’ arrival. It was then that my true pride in purple emerged. Everyone embarked on the nerve-wracking journey of settling into a new normal with poise, patience, and positivity. I have to say, the birth of little Lucy Langer bolstered the good vibes because the baby fever was real around the house!

On April 20th, the unity of Alex was summed up in our amazing, best-decorated Murder Mystery-themed Open House. Despite a slushie flood and an absurd lack of tape, the overall harmony in this process spoke volumes to Alex’s tight-knit community. The 9s have grown into lovely little ladies keen to learn more about life. The 10s have demonstrated their readiness to take on seniority, their next Brentwood battle. The 11s have proved their will to be strong leaders next year (I have every faith in each of you). And our 15 perfect Prefects have created an unbelievable house vibe with their unwavering leadership. This bond within Alex could not have happened without the duty staff (who rein in the fun so we do not fall behind in the Brentwood bustle), Mrs Langer (an incredible Assistant Houseparent with impeccable standards), and, of course. Mrs Warner (the phenomenal second mother we simply would not survive without).

Alex has been my home away from home since Grade 11; the love I have found in this house of shared history will forever hold a place in my heart. It is truly a blessing to be able to write my name down in history as Captain of this boarding house. Thank you for everything, Alexandra.
