Every other day, students from grades nine through twelve indulge themselves in the peaceful and inspiring art, Art Foundations. Mr Luna states that “Art Foundations creates an introduction to materials, which are profound learning tools.” Art Foundations allows the typical student to be surrounded in an inviting and pleasing environment, where they can feel comfortable in expressing themselves through various forms of art. Art Foundations takes place in first block through fourth block, giving students various options for when they would like to have their block based on their other arts. Students are invited to stay for more than one block to further explore their interests in art or work on their projects. Classes typically begin with Mr Luna presenting, explaining, and rationalizing various interpretations of a specific form of art. The class is later encouraged to take on their own perception of what that art form means to them. Maria R, Mackenzie ‘19, states that “Art foundations is a great opportunity to create art in a helpful environment.” Under the guidance of Mr Luna, students spend the next few classes working on personal projects that are later presented on display in the Centre for Art and Humanities. Mr Luna states that “The purpose of Art Foundations is to get students used to the various stages of work when it comes to creating a work of art, and realize how their sensibility relates to the given materials.” Often, in class, students are encouraged to take risks or try out different methods or ideas.
