Brentwood’s Terry Fox Run
The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families, and groups to raise money for cancer research in Terry’s name. It is a day of celebrating Terry’s legacy and helping to keep alive his dream of finding a cure for cancer. Terry Fox is a hero and an inspiration for every Canadian. Last Sunday we weren’t running for us, we ran for him and for those cancer victims we know and cherish. On Sunday we woke up early, ditched our sleep-in, ran to Crooks Hall to have a good breakfast before our 5km run. At noon we were all geared up: it was time to start. The fastest runners led the way and the slower ones stayed at the back but it truly didn’t matter how fast you ran that day because it’s all about doing it. I truly felt the pain in my muscles but I didn’t stop. The cause is so close to my heart, so close to Brentwood’s that I had to continue running. My friends and I turned on our favorite Rihanna song and ran right to the finish line. This event is about family and so it is full of emotions, mixed emotions. We all thank Terry Fox for leaving us with such emotions: he never gave up for his cause and we won’t either. The Terry Fox Run is a tradition at Brentwood and we won’t stop running for him.
