Canucks Fever?
I understand glandular fever, I even, thanks to an obsessive friend, understand Beiber Fever, but I still struggle to comprehend the recent phenomenon known as Canucks Fever.
This disease is transformative, turning sedate British Columbians into crazed towel waving fans. It seems that as the Canucks come closer to the first game of the Stanley Cup Final, the fever spreads. Like scarlet fever, the support for the final Canadian team in Lord Stanley’s contest is contagious.
In the sea of this viral infection, a few fortunate souls are left with immunity. Their white blood cells courageously fight while they observe the madness around them. Those who are not infected lack an understanding of Canucks Fever. “What” they ask, “is so exciting about the Canucks?” This reasonable question is met with growls from both ardent and band wagon fans.
So, for those of you more concerned with the upcoming Harry Potter movie than a potential Canucks’ Stanley Cup win, be warned. Tread carefully around those with the fever and keep your opinions to yourselves.
