Captains of Arts
Two weeks ago we published an article on the student leaders who help shape the school through their work in the houses (House Captains) and in school-wide groups like the SAC, BEAT and Grad Council.
Later this fall we will recognize our sports captains who lead on the playing field, on the water, at the rink on the courts and in the gym.
Today we celebrate student leadership in our thriving and diverse arts programs. Being appointed as a Captain in the Visual Arts Studios and Performing Arts classes recognizes, nurtures, and challenges leadership skills in our senior students. Candidates for this opportunity are considered on the basis of:
• Being considered by faculty and peers to be responsible and have the respect of their peers.
• Being prepared to give a helping hand to teachers and students.
• Being knowledgeable in their art, coupled with a strong technical proficiency.
• Being capable of representing the opinions of their fellow students to faculty.
• Having a track record of loyal participation in the art.
• Having concern for the safety of student artists and being ready to intervene if necessary.
• Having demonstrated significant passion for the art – a Colours winner or candidate.
