“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth”- Muhammed Ali The first Saturday back from March Break and Brentonians were already back to work…not school work though: every single student spent their day helping somebody else to better the community. The charity work that could be done included a lot of yard work, painting of fences, and cleaning up a horse stable, as well as helping to keep the inside of the Brentwood gates clean. Why are we doing this charity work? Because all of the proceeds will go towards local charities in the Cowichan Valley. Some hosts were kind enough to provide a lunch for everybody, but students that were not provided lunch were not left out by any means as they could create their own lunch of sandwiches, fresh fruit, water bottles, juice boxes, granola bars, fruit bars, and crisps for everyone to grab a bag and pack a lunch. Mr. Felix headed the organization of this third year of successful volunteering and we give him a huge thanks – it is not easy corralling 530 teenagers on a Saturday morning. Everyone dedicated their time for Charity Work Day and it made it a huge success. “Even those who are injured or unwell made a contribution, displaying some grit to benefit others” said Mr. Felix in his thank-you email to the school. The contributors who had students over to their property were asked for their feedback and it has been posted at Crooks Hall for everybody to read and take in. The total donation count has not yet been finished but we have already exceeded $16,000.
