Clue: The Theme was Murder Mystery

On April 20th Alexandra hosted its annual Open House. Students from across campus were invited to visit and enjoy a night of music, pizza, slushies, and themed fun!

To support the theme, students had the chance to either dress in monochrome outfits – like the colored characters from the board game Clue – or as a detective. Ranging from all-white outfits to impressive imitations of Sherlock Holmes, attendees stunned with their getups. Many were also amazed by the decor throughout the house, consisting of an entrance hung with caution tape and filled with balloons, hallways covered in suspect boards or bloody handprints, a bloody water pong table, and a chalk outline on the floor. Above the water pong tables was an impressive balloon arch, framing the primary suspect board outlining each character (the Alex House Grade 12s) and their alibis.

One hotspot was definitely the mugshot area where groups of people could pose with suspect boards to capture a picture of their mugshot. As people finally meandered their way around the house, they ended up at their next destination, ‘Murder on the Dance Floor’. With Kara E and Anna D, Alex’ 24 as the DJs, it was fair to say everyone thoroughly enjoyed the music – and dancing happened in the common room!

As exhaustion crept over the guests, so did hunger, and, before the Alex girls knew it, the kitchen was swarming with slushy and pizza orders. In the midst of all this chaos, Simret S, Mack’ 24, was able to admire the decor put up by a team of Grade 11s and said it “was so pretty with the lighting and the vibes too!”

In all white from head to toe, an impressive example of following the monochromatic dress code, was none other than Mr Patel. He made sure to take in his last Alex Open House by visiting the crime scene, forensics, and the infamous quad – the only four-student room on campus. But Mr Patel was not the only one dressed in all white. Hovering through the walls was a white sheet with two holes pierced through the eyes. No one was able to identify who it was – but by the end of the night, Ms Miller finally decided to interact with the students face to face.

During the preparation of Alex Open House, students got the chance to bring their artistic visions to life, and truly saw their house transform into their Murder Mystery theme. Alex House Captain Toluwani A, Alex’ 24 said, “Transforming Alexandra into a Murder Mystery soirée was no small feat. The multi-day decor setup required much forethought including extensive decor plans, materials to be used, and division of labor. All things considered, I am extremely proud of my Dinos, because the Prefects leadership coupled with the students’ dedication truly brought our Open House dream to fruition.”

From House Captain to Houseparent, the sense of accomplishment vibrated through Alex where Mrs Warner felt “The open house was a big success. The students enjoyed pizza, slushies, and dancing with their friends. Alex House is structurally much different than the other boarding houses and the other students always seem to enjoy navigating their way through the cozy halls of the house”.
