Deviously Delicious Lies: A Fantastic Farce

On Thursday night a busload of Brentwood students made their way up to the Chemainus Theatre to observe quiet a spectacular spectacle. There was much hype and happiness as we plowed onto the bus, only a few minutes away from a night of laughter and giggles. We were on our way to watch a comedy set in an eclectic and colorful small town in the wild, wild west where many lies are spun and many hearts are stolen. ‘Delicious Lies’ is an adaptation of Moliere’s ‘Scapin’, directed by Mark DuMez. He and the cast creatively moved the crowd with laughter through many gags and puns. A funny farce indeed! Thomas Jones stole the show as Scapin, the sneaky and sharp-tongued servant of Leandre who tried to help resolve two tricky situations about a hidden marriage and forbidden love. Perhaps he didn’t bring a solution, but he definitely never let a dull moment pass! A facetious farce indeed! David K agreed he enjoyed the performance and laughed loudly. He was also delighted that we had twenty minutes of free time before the production. Many students gallivanted around the quaint town of Chemainus and bombarded the ice cream and candy stores. To the surprise of Bilal S, his surprise kid’s candy kit had Chemainus’ sourest candies. Eagerly he and I tested these face-scrunching, toe-curling, body-tingling candies that frazzled all nerves starting at the tongue.
